The Columbia-Greene Addiction Coalition is pleased to announce that it has launched a new substance use disorder informational website for residents of Columbia and Greene counties. Jointly funded by the Columbia County Board of Supervisors, the Greene County Legislature, and the Healthcare Consortium, and developed with the input of the Addiction Coalition’s many members – the purpose of the website is to provide residents of Columbia and Greene Counties with information about the wide variety of resources in and around our community for preventing, treating and supporting recovery from addiction.
The website contains information about the disease of addiction and addresses some of the common myths and misconceptions about it; identifies different drugs of abuse and signs of addiction; provides guidance to parents and caregivers about communicating with children and adolescents about drug and/or alcohol abuse and addiction; and, provides an inventory of services and support for individuals and families impacted by addiction. The website also has a calendar of events, which highlights opportunities for interested people to learn more and do more about addiction in our community.
Columbia County Board of Supervisors’ Chairman Matt Murrell identified this critical service as a key accomplishment on behalf of residents, and a direct result of the Columbia County Opioid Epidemic Response Plan adopted by the Columbia County Board of Supervisors in April, 2017.
“This website represents an important step in the ongoing implementation of our Opioid Epidemic Response Plan and an important service to our residents”, states Murrell. “Columbia and Greene counties are maximizing their efforts by collectively tackling the opioid epidemic.”
Greene County Administrator Shaun Groden encourages Twin County residents to take advantage of this new resource: “This new website is the culmination of a year’s research and work that provides the community with a greater understanding of the crisis and our combined efforts to combat the causes. I encourage all community members to review the data and understand the resources that are available.”
