Information Technology was created as the Greene County Data Processing Department in 1981 to provide technology support for all County offices.
Ever-changing technologies offer government the challenge of knowing how these innovations may enable better service and communication with the public and allow for more efficient and cost effective government. It is our responsibility to provide guidance, advice and support to other County agencies in the acquisition and use of technology.
The department oversees the many aspects of information services, including traditional centralized data processing, server-based systems, inter- and intranet applications, phone systems, audio-visual equipment, and standalone P/C’s. Through the GIS Service Bureau, we are responsible for the development and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems for the County.
We maintain an IBM iSeries with integrated external Servers, Edge Servers, Windows and Linux based Servers, Computer Aided Dispatch, Police and Emergency Services Systems, more than 400 personal computers and workstations, networking of all Greene County departments, providing inter-connectivity, high-speed internet and email to County Offices. We believe this provides the infrastructure needed to assure better communications between our Agencies and the citizens of Greene County.
In the future we will be working to enhance this infrastructure to meet the constantly changing technologies in the most efficient and responsible ways.
