Greene County Highway and Solid Waste Superintendent Robert J. Van Valkenburg has announced the appointment of Scott R. Templeton to the vacant Deputy Superintendent position in the Greene County Highway and Solid Waste Department, effective October 29, 2018. The appointment will run concurrently with the Superintendent’s four-year term through December 31, 2019.
Scott, who was born and raised in Catskill, is a Civil Engineer, with over 16 years experience related to transportation and construction work. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Buffalo and a Masters Degree in Construction Management from the Stevens Institute of Technology. Throughout his career, he has held a number of increasingly responsible positions, most recently working as a Project Office Engineer for the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, providing Construction Management services for the $1.3 billion reconstruction project. As an undergraduate, Scott actually began his work experience as a summer intern with the Highway Department’s Engineering Division, performing various construction inspection and pavement management assignments. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Construction Management Association of America.
Van Valkenburg said “This has been a lengthy process and in this strong economy, it has been very challenging to recruit someone with the extensive education and diverse experience in engineering, project management and administration that we’re looking for in this position. Scott’s outstanding qualifications made him our top choice. His local connections, knowledge of Greene County and our department will make him an excellent fit for the responsibilities of Deputy Superintendent. I’m very excited to have him on board and look forward to working together and putting his skills and experience to work for the Highway and Solid Waste Department and the taxpayers of Greene County”.
Legislator Pat Linger of New Baltimore, chairs the Public Works Committee of the Greene County Legislature. He said “Adding engineering expertise and developing an appropriate succession plan for our senior management team has been a significant goal of this legislature. The experience Scott has gained over the past 16 years will serve the county well in this key position, improve efficiency and leave us in a much better place for the future. Since Scott grew up in the area and wants to bring his family home, this is a great opportunity for both parties, and I wish him well in his new position”.
Templeton is very excited about this new opportunity. He said “After over 16 years working in the engineering and construction industry and living in the New York City Metro area, it was the right time to come home. Since my wife is also from Greene County accepting this position was an easy family decision. We’re happy to be coming home and being part of the community. I look forward to joining the management team at Greene County Highway and Solid Waste.
